Shadow Refraction was supposed to be 2D top-down shooter game. It was UW's first attempt at Unity. The project is well known for how ridiculously fast it was scrapped (the same day it was created).
Back in high school, UW wanted to learn Unity. More specifically, he wanted to recreate one of his childhood games, Endless War 3. After learning the basics, he managed to create the core of the game in a few hours. After that, he told himself "I'll continue tomorrow. This game will be great". However, for some reason, he never opened Unity again for 3 years.
UW himself doesn't remember the reason why he suddenly scrapped the project. However, he speculates that it's because he was already working on multiple projects, two of which being UberMycro and The Exom Assembly.
Because Shadow Refraction was born and scrapped on the same day, the Deprimus members often associate this project with failure. As a result, calling any project "like Shadow Refraction" is like calling it a failure. Equivalently, saying that someone will "pull a Shadow Refraction" is like saying the person will scrap the project in the near future.
the project was initially named Shadow Reflection. However, the name was already taken by another game. Thus, reflection was replaced with refraction.
because of how ridiculously fast this project was scrapped, UW doesn't consider it his first Unity game. Instead, SanityBreaker is his first actual Unity game.
